There are two views. It seems as if many implementations (as opposed to viewpoints) have objects as what you call lessons (there's a lot of legacy content that has it all lumped together, and it's easy to just call a whole lesson an object). And there's no fundamental reason why that can't be an object.
The specification, however, allows a finer granularity and your worksheets, overheads, etc, also can be objects.
I'm arguing for the finer granularity for several reasons. One is that it allows people to drill down to just what they need more easily. Another is that we might build systems that can provide just the right overhead/worksheet/reading/etc for this learner at this point in time. A third is that it could make revising materials easier.
So you'd have an object that presents the objectives, another that is a motivating example, another that presents the concept (in a particular way), another that provides a visual support, another that provides a chance to practice, etc. And each of these needs to be labeled in ways that helps the systems understand their instructional role.
I hope this helps, -- Clark
