In introducing core concepts or terminology to a student, is there a
difference between training and education? I believe that we should
be fostering the higher level thinking skills etc. but student need a
framework of concepts and ideas that they can use for those
critical thinking processes. Generic learning objects can provide
that background.

I do not want to limit learning objects to that level alone. Can I have
a learning object that fosters group discussion. Those involved in
distance learning programmes are forced to use such learning
objects. It is my belief that they would also help in the classroom
setting. Is a tutorial session a learning object? If not, why not?

Should students develop self-assessment skills? Are these
important for the future carriers and personal development? What
about negotiated outcomes and assessment criteria, are these
appropriate?

Has anyone got a learning objects that deal with self assessment,
learning strategies, negotiated learning outcomes? Would these be
generic learning objects that can be pulled into other courses?
