I don't get this limitation. Even when we have large numbers, we break people up into small groups for work. That's because there's a tradeoff between the benefits of more minds and the increasing difficulty of negotiating communication. I don't see this as a limitation.

I would add a third, which is the benefits of a mentor in providing input to focus activity. We know that learners can get into a small section of the potential solution (and concept) space without some guidance.
