My preference is for the size to be determined from how long a
student might be expected to spend on that chunk of learning.
However, there has to be some flexibility in part because of the
nature of the content. I tend to think in terms of learning object
hierarchies. At the higher levels, the student is integrating ideas
and concepts from a number of lower level chunks. If I follow this
approach then how do you determine the size of the composite
learning object? Does it include the size of the component chunks?
I see another learning object concept coming through in some of
this discussion. These learning objects provide functionality for
discussion or collaboration. These can not be defined by the same
size criteria as content or skill based learning objects.
