Reusability will only come from deliberate action in that direction.
Before there were interchangeable parts in the manufacture of
firearms, each rifle had to be fabricated individually and repairs
required custom fabricated parts.

Now, developing educational experiences, including educational
objects, is far more complex than manufacturing things. Nonetheless,
one can develop an educational experience targeting a specific
audience and specific objectives using standardized, interchangeable
parts **in conjunction with** custom fabricated elements.

Indeed, even the objects themselves might be subject to "tweaking" if
the object author provides the means to do so. Here's a trivial
example:

go_puzzle/

QuickTime 4 is required (free download for Mac & Win at
http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/)

I did not author this "wired" QuickTime movie. However, the author
did provide me with the source code. All I did was change his
graphic elements to those representing our university, recompile and
export the movie. The authoring environment, for those who might be
interested, is LiveStage Pro (http://www.totallyhip.com).
