SHORT DESCRIPTION ABOUT BERGEN
Bergen is a very picturesque city - a wonderful combination of the sea, fjords,
mountains, parks, woods. The nature in and around Bergen was a source of
inspiration for the famous Norwegian composer Edvard Grieg. He was born in Bergen,
lived there for 22 years, and composed many of his best-known works in the little
garden hut by the shore of a lake. Edvard Grieg's home "Troldhaugen" (The Hill of
the Trolls) is located 8 km to south of Bergen; it is now a museum. 15minutes'
bus-drive from the city-centre and another 20 minutes' walk will bring you to
"Troldhaugen" and its grounds. Bergen is one of 9 European cities to be given the
status of European City of Culture in the Year 2000.
