Hello to everyone, I've been lurking far too long so it's time to take the
plunge!
My name is Ian Ramage, I m the research assistant for the Upgrade2000 project,
funded under the European Social Fund (ESF) Objective 4 programme.
The project aims to deliver training in basic skills (ABE) to employees in
small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), using digital television (DTV),
digital versatile disk (DVD) and the Internet. That's enough TLA's for now.
I'm trying to sort out my thinking on something and I would welcome your views
and opinions.
I'm not concerned with the technical aspects of DTV and DVD etc. but more with
thinking about developing a 'learning model' to underpin the technology. I'm
trying to grapple with a number of issues, including, how to 'map' (if that is
the correct term) basic skills pedagogy onto providing digital, interactive
programmes and how to turn the passive television viewer into an engaged
learner (if that doesn't sound too much like social engineering). I'm hoping I
can draw upon distance learning models as well as models of online learning for
inspiration.
Again, I would welcome any feedback.
Best wishes
Ian Ramage
