I must admit to being very pragmatic in my approach: is there an issue of
transactional distance? How can we practically address it? From Wendy Lowe

(Neologisms aside for the moment) If I were to analyze the issue again (in
reply to Ms./Dr. Lowe): The term transactional distance refers to first and
foremost, the learning transaction (much like a business transaction or a
client-customer transaction, to allude to TQM jargon) between the learner
and the instructor (i.e., teacher, author/designer, whatever is politically
correct!). Transactional distance is referring to the quality of the
learning transaction with the quality dependent on both participants in the
transaction as well as variables of media. If we are to analyze the quality
of the learning transaction as it plays out in a "distance learning"
scenario, how does that analysis differ from analyzing any
learner/instructor transaction? The tools are modified: yes, but are any
other components of the scenario modified?

TQM=Total Quality Management.
