3rd Working Conference on Engineering Education

Engineering Education For The 21st Century

17 - 20 April 2000, Sheffield, England

Call for Papers

The Engineering Education Research Group of Sheffield Hallam University is
seeking papers for a conference to be held in Sheffield in April 2000.

The emphasis of the conference is on the challenges facing engineering
education in the new millennium. Papers are being sought in the following and
other allied topic areas:

Priorities in engineering education: cost effective engineering education; the
formation of professional engineers; the development of personal, transferable
and core skills; the training of professional engineers; the development of
business, financial and language skills for engineers; effective assessment of
 graduateness ; matching engineering education to the needs of business.

The influence of new technology: Use of CAL and CD-ROM media; the role of
audio, video and computer conferencing; the use of computer simulations; the
impact of new technology on effective learning; development tools; computer
based formative and summative assessments; pedagogical issues.

Access to engineering education: continuing professional development; open and
distance learning material; learning via the Internet and World Wide Web;
flexible study programmes; joint education and industry programmes.

The role of research within engineering education: contribution of technical
research to undergraduate curriculum; measuring quality in research;
educational research in a technical environment.
