As a lurker in this dialogue, I must say that I am enjoying it greatly.
Grappling with the philosophical footing upon which transactional distance
issues are based is very important, as is providing concrete examples of how
it is done, and done well. Much of what I have seen thus far revolves
around what is now referred to as `constructivist learning theory'. Some
time ago, I set up and advertised a listserve, (constructteach@egroups.com
http://www.egroups.com/list/constructteach/ ) which I had hoped would
engender some discussion of this topic as related to more specifically to
institutions of higher ed., rather than K - 12, institutions. Thus far
there seems to be little application interest in this topic from those in
higher ed, with perhaps the exception of those who are directly concerned
with the field of education.
