Hello Alan ,
You have mentioned in your message how Asians look at the online education
programs which are actually targeted at them
If we look at the program courses which are aimed at students thru
deliverable media like CBTs etc which facilitate learning at ones own
leisure and will - that is how I look at "flexible learning ".Then those
media are very popular if they are well designed and cover the contents
required by the learner .The learner community atleast in India is very
aware of what they want to learn(in HE sections ) .However regarding the
web courses or online programs in India as in most Asian countries
infrastructure for accessing web is still a grey area .
Also any student who goes thru an online management or computer applications
course expects to land a job at the end of it .But in India a concept exists
that the distance learning courses whether thru web or any other media are
not prestigious enough .
Thus foreign universities/institutes offering these courses in India should
first establish a credibility in the job market in order to popularise the
courses .
