Completing the Jigsaw - conference update Delivering Lifelong Learning with Information and Communications Technology ALTAC Conference 1999 The Business Learning Centre Lauder College Dunfermline Thursday 7th October 1999 Register on-line at: http://www.altac.org.uk The pace of change in education is accelerating. More people are becoming
learners, and at the same time Information and Communications Technology
(ICT) is becoming integrated into teaching and learning in many different
ways. Further, with government initiatives such as the University for Industry,
Scottish University for Industry (SUfI) and the National Grid for Learning,
the final pieces of a new and exciting learning framework are falling into
place. ICT is making Lifelong Learning a reality. The aim of this one-day conference is to examine these issues by means of
presentations and case studies as well as to informally exchange ideas. Leading experts from the United Kingdom and abroad will cover themes such
as: heightening the educational experience through the use of the new
learning technologies; Scottish University for Industry and its programme;
opening up learning for the community. There will in addition be a range of
workshops featuring ICT in the curriculum, support services from existing
agencies, local authority centres and case studies including an
international co-operative project and a SME-Educational partnership. An
exhibition will also be part of the day and feature products from a range of
firms and organisations with an interest in the field of computer-based
training. ___________________________________ Programme 9.15 Registration and tea/coffee 9.45 Welcome from ALTAC 9.50 Opening Address, Dr. Bill Harvey 10.05 Anytime, Anywhere Learning, Chris Poole 10.30 Learning About Learning with Technology, Professor Terry Mayes

stages of learning. The usefulness of the framework will be tested on some
popular ideas about the future for FE/HE. Bob Maguire GTN-Adapt Project Manager. This talk will look at the core concerns of the
GTN-Adapt team: on-line training as a possible solution to a business
problem; encouraging training providers to perceive themselves as
e-businesses; and integrating ICT in the curriculum in the context of
college/private sector partnerships. Kaisa Lindstrom Principal Otava Folk High School, Finland. This live video-conferencing
session will examine the pedagogical aspects of using video-conferencing in

This talk will focus on issues relating to IT and community education. Michael Thorne Vice Principal, Napier University, Edinburgh; SUfI Steering Group. There are
many different ways in which ICT could be used in SUfI. This talk will
examine the strengths and weaknesses of different approaches and make
recommendations for the way forward. The key considerations are the amount
of capital and revenue funding available, the proven nature (or otherwise!)
of a technological intervention and access. _____________________ For further details visit the web site at http://www.altac.org.uk, or send
