Epiphanies are nice but rare. ;-)
I start slowly and make sure that the participants identify the gains that
THEY make in their learning as we go along. This requires reflection on
their part and setting time for that reflection on mine. I use a lot of
mini-lectures (5-10 minutes) with cooperative exercises and discussion
inbetween, always ending with the participants processing how they did in
both activity and thought. It develops critical thinking skills and
analytical thought patterns.
If what is taught is fluff this approach won't work. It is easier to drone
on and then they stop being able to discern differences or analyze
critically.
