Um, yes. Or, at least, it can be. There's using the interface, an
opportunity to talk about representations, search, organization, etc.
There're more options for replication, editing, etc. Then there are
the tools: mathematical functions, 3D, etc.

Of course, the transition to programming isn't so clear cut, either.
You can have just quick replacements of slides (e.g. traditional
animation), tracks, scripting, all the way up to programmed
interactions. Where do you draw the line?

You can bring in systematicity, problem-solving, etc in almost any
activity. The question is: what's so special about programming? I'm
not arguing that there's NOT something special (see my previous
post), but I think it needs to be articulated. The old assumption
that it's fundamentally different is greying away with increasing
capabilities in other applications. I think the fundamental need to
teach programming needs to be reexamined and restated. -- Clark
