My experience with fear and learning comes from my studies of writing students. I have found that misunderstanding based on pedagogy that does not really present the reality of the learning/writing process is a major influence. Built on that is a lack of taking responsibility for one's learning/writing based on these misunderstandings because as Diana Carl points out, if we create an atmosphere where students have too much of a comfort zone, they will not be exposed to and be given opportunities to learn how to negotiate their own responsibility for learning
