For further discussion about using virtual reality modeling language
(VRML) to emulate instruction Steve Guynup forwarded an email directly
to me and wrote "Basically it states that an Avatar is not a character
representation with gestural expression. It is, in the abstract, a four
dimensional point for
data exchange. Thus a person/avatar can present information by
actually
becoming information. This imbues a powerful sense of personal
attraction
to the data and creates a single focus point for learning ( as a opposed
to
the duality of instructor and data (is projection screen, text book,
model,
etc.)"
Steve wrote a paper "Avatar as Content Delivery Platform"
It was created for the VRML 98 Conference - Education Lectures.

The paper as accepted and later published.
Also won a best conceptual advancement "Avvy" award in Nov 99
perhaps the most unique about it is the fact that it was not only doable
in
1998 but it's easier and more flexible than the current "reality" model.
