Ken-
The easiest way to place audio (and video) files on the Internet is to use the RealNetworks solutions. Download the free version of the RealProducer, very easy to setup and use. Install
RealProducer. Use realproducer to create your audio or video files. Then upload the files to your website. The files cannot be linked to your hardrive, they must be on a server that
is accessible by people on the Internet. Creat a link on your webpage to the audio-file you created. When people click on the link, realaudio will launch and play the clip for them.
You can also email your audio files (size permitting) for people hear. I use the RealProducer system for creating video and audio files with quick turnaround. Using the audio recording
feature you can offer "live" feedback on a paper or project and send it to the students. I think the students appreciate this more than my criptic emails.
If you would like to see a few examples of audio and video online see:

http://teach.valdosta.edu/amrecess/amrecess.htm
These are not my best examples and the poor quality is due to having the settings wrong when recording, but you can get the idea.
Steps:
1. Create the audio or video file using RealProducer (the file will be saved to your hardrive)
2. Using MS Frontpage or FTP, import the audio/video file to same directory as your website
3. Create a link on your website to the audio/video file
Here is the source code I used to create the link and make available to visitors:
<p>Dr. <a href="artrecesso.rm">Art Recesso</a>, Assistant Professor</p>
the .rm file is the RealMedia file (audio or video) that I imported to my website directory using MS Frontpage.
Good luck!
Art
