Abstract:
This talk will give an overview of the state of the art of speech signal
processing and automatic speech recognition. Given the range of speech
recognition products that is now widely available - and even affordable -
the answer to the question of whether automatic speech recognition is
possible may be less clear than expected. Aimed at an audience of
linguists and language teachers, the talk will also lead to a discussion
on the potential of speech signal processing methods for language
teaching.
