Hi all (epsecially Dave, Rachel, and Marcia),
My cyber-ears were burning, so I thought I'd join the list and see what
was going on.
I'm the director of TAPPED IN. One of our help desk volunteers (BJ) was
in a conversation today with two guests (one in Finland and one in
Greece), both of whom logged in because of your IFETS postings (thank
you). The bizarre and gratify thing was that the two guests discovered
that they knew each other from OU in the UK! An excerpt (I hope Brian and
Helen dont mind me sharing this. I know BJ won't)...
BJB asks, "any questions, Brian?"
hchappel [guest] asks, "BJB is this manned 24/7?"
Brian [guest] says, "I'd like to speak to the other guest Helen whom I
know"
BJB says, "it's available 24/7, but is not staffed 24/7"
hchappel [guest] asks, "did you see this on the IFETS list today too?"
BJB [to Brian [guest]]: "are you saying hchappel is Helen?"
Brian [guest] says, "Belive it or not all the way from Finland"
BJB [HelpDesk] laughs....this is very cool!
hchappel [guest] exclaims, "that's really funny!"
BJB says, "and a very wonderful example of distance learning at it's
finest"
Brian [guest] says, "Are you in UK or Greece"
hchappel [guest] asks, "me in Greece..you?"
Brian [guest] says, "I agree..we studied virtually together for 3 years
... I'm in Nokia to answer both of you"
Brian [guest] says, "I got this link in Digest for
ifets-discuss@topica.com, issue 43"
hchappel [guest] says, "i like this live chat feature for
exploring..very neat.. shall we hunt about"
I'm always fascinated how small the world is becoming with the Web. But
I didn't imagine that our connection with another NSF project would end
up with a reunion of friends half way around the world, so I thought I
would share this with you. Please feel free to visit TAPPED IN and send
me your feedback. We're planning our next upgrades and I would be happy
to hear from this group on what we need to do better.
