Like mapping of the webpage using universe by IBM researchers, the following
is another "big picture' discussion with extremely far reaching implications
for the immediate future of ifets community members worldwide. In that
sense, I forward Mr. Newell's post of questions about GPS for your
information.

Subject: Removal of GPS - SA by US Gov't
Hello all in Mapping-cyberspace
I am sure that you all know that the US Government have removed selective
availability from the GPS system thereby vastly improving the performance
in navigation and positioning systems.
I am interested to know what your opinions are on this, specifically in
reference to the following :-
1) Do you think that this decision has given the US a telematics lead ??
2) Do you think that they did this as a reaction to a belief that the
European Market is moving ahead of the US market ??
3) Do you think that this is simply an example of the kind of co-operation
that the market now needs to move forward ??
4) What do you think are the broader implications of this move ??
5) How could this affect the consumer / GPS user ??
My intention is to write a short article on this for possible publication -
I will be so pleased to forward it to anybody if wanted - please let me
know.
I am under a tight time limit, so I would be very grateful for any comments
on this no later that Friday 12th 12:00 or earlier.
Thanks a lot.....
