If you accept the evidence that universe has no up and no down, how do you
know that your apple falls down? If you do believe that *you* can tell
then you also must admit that had it not been for your point of view, the
apple might have not been even discussed not even the sense of direction
that you apply in your observation. Apple might open a way for
thinking to some, but in another perspective gravity might be discussed
completely differently. It all depends on the question and hence on those
who see the value of that question. Nobody denies that we try to know, but
those like me deny that reality can be organised in one way. Had this been
the case, how can you explain the diversity of ways in which the brain
adapts to the environment. To you, is being crossed eye a fault? To
neuroscientists it may well be a product of adaptation which, in certain
feedback conditions seemed to be the right way to go for the brain.
Even our brains structure knows that the world can be organised in may
ways...

Btw I am only now catching up with IFETS mails so only today I will be
able to give your other comments to those who professionally are involved
in empirical research of science. I will post the asnwer on teh Internet.
