Matthias, I have an 8-year old in my 3rd grade class who slips along, within
the computor applications block my team teacher and I have once a week for 1
hour - to 1 1/2. She keeps the screen up when someone hits the window key
throwing the computor into DOS. She joyfully goes from shoulder to shoulder
and helps with the slight misunderstandings as to the learning game plans
prescribed by the diskette. She very calmly offers her email as a suggestion
of friendly conversation. At this point, computors at our primary school
only offer interactive learning experiences, but the visionaries are
dragging those caught in the WEB along to the dreams of the future: student
web pages, interaction with international libraries for research and simple
storytelling, interaction with key pals, interaction with environmental
projects, and testing of the environmental soils, air, and water with NASA
and GLOBE schools. We have stepped through that 90's challenge into the
future, and no one could possibly
wish to hold us back. The children have a spark in their eyes again - it is the
information fronteer. As a media-specialist student, and teacher, I have
found that the evidence points to information as the topic of choice in
books or other media.
