Subject: [ifets] Money for AI??

Hi Chris ...

Yes, my comment was indeed ironic! I see this AI money as being spent on
a potentially unattainable perhaps undesirable goal. AI can do loads of
amazing things, but humans still communicate best with humans and will
continue to do so since it is we and not artifical brains who co-habit
in a real tactile emotional world. It is only by understanding one's
students that one can teach and having a model of their learning
progress is but a minute part of that empathy.

Hope that clears that one up!!

Samantha Hobbs challenged Arun that teachers could be replaced by the 
new technology - she argued for interaction with peers and teachers, 
though she, perhaps with an ironical jab, was happy for loads of 
research money to be spent on AI in education!
