I have been following this discussion with great interest.

My name is John Walker. I have been on the Net since 1987 and a full time
Netizen for many years. I publish the CSS Internet News, a daily newsletter
that deals with 'Net issues, news and sites.

I have taught folks how to use the Internet since 1990 and this year began
providing instruction via the 'Net with the On-line Learning Series of
Courses,

http://www.bestnet.org/~jwalker/course.htm

The vast majority of my students are educators, about 60% female.

I keep the costs as reasonable as possible, between $5.00 and $15.00 US for
a two to three week course. This keeps it within reach of most Netizens.

While the courses are two to three weeks in duration I find that life has a
way of changing people's plans. Therefore there is no real time limit placed
on the student to complete assignments and tests. Should a problem arise they
can complete them as time permits and send them in for marking.

Lessons are kept short and given in plain English with techno-babble kept to
an absolute minimum. A discussion list is provided for each course.

The On-line Learning Series of Courses have been quite successful. It's easy
enough to 'sell' a course the first time but when students come back for
further
training then you know you've got it right.

Teachers are anxious to learn about this new technology but MUST be permitted
to work at their own pace and in a environment where they feel secure.
