e-mail works fine for me. i am a member of several mailing lists and
a few board-based forums. i prefer mailing lists for "general" topics
and boards for "projects", i.e. (more or less) specified tasks with
at least some kind of time limit and where all members are expected
to contribute (con)currently.

so mail is good for scanning input and not responding to every item.

i have two requests or suggestions, though, based on my experience of
mailing lists over the last few years:

- please, only reproduce really relevant parts of earlier postings
- please, please, if you are sending from inside a web browser or
similar, use text only.
