I have a number of "mature" students who work with me on-line. One of them
made a very sage comment to me..."You know it is really nice getting back
to writing letters. I forgot about it until I started with this
technology(sic)."

In many ways my "younger students" have never entered into
correspondence... they have always used the phone for "real communication".
Writing was something they did for teacher or examiner... an alienated
communication at the best of times.

In this technology the act of social communication is much more apparent
becaue people actually respond in something other than red ink. In stepping
back from this sort of activity, the older computer neophyte has often the
requisite skills: Epistlology! Hitting the right buttons or working out
how to change your IP settings is trivial in the real issues about on-line
learning.
