Dear Members

I have just posted the post-discussion summary of first formal discussion
on the web, for your comments. You can find it at:
http://ifets.gmd.de/discuss/

The pre discussion paper is also linked (if you go in it, please use back button
of your browser to come back to post discussion summary page). Your comments
are welcome. Please click the 'post discussion summary comments' link which will
give you the possibility of adding you comments, and reading other members'
comments.

The final version of the summary will be prepared by the discussion moderators
(Prof V A Fomichov & Dr O Fomichova) in about two weeks time, which will then
appear along with participants names, in the forum's electronic periodical
"Educational technology & Society" (ISSN 1436-4522).

This officially ends our first formal discussion, and we can now begin informal
discussions. In future, the formal discussions will take place on web, so the
discussion list is now open for informal discussions all the time.

Perhaps I start with some questions on distance education, which were raised
in previous discussions on the list. Please give your opinion. What should be
the role of distance education in present and near future? Should it replace
the face-to-face instruction, or should it compliment? If it should compliment,
would that be feasible in all situations? Is there any demand for total
replacement? If there is, how should that be done?

Are there any other problems in face-to-face instruction than temporal and spatial
constraints? If there are, what are they, and can distance education be used
to solve them?

Please let us know your opinion by replying to this email.

Sincere regards.

Kinshuk.
