Greetings All-
I've enjoyed reading the diverse backgrounds of this group. Research indicates
that multidisciplinary teams can make more progress than homogeneous teams
if the rich intermix of ideas gets a good opportunity to cross pollinate.
My work is focused on performance improvement in knowledge workers in various
applied settings from military analysts to corporate management. My doctorate
is in instructional psychology and as an independent consult with a small
staff I teach seminars and provide consultations to business and
governmental clients world wide.
My research and consulting interests are in human expertise and ways to
bootstrap novice performance especially in knowledge-intensive work.
Currently,I
am consulting on cognitive methods of task analysis studying expert
performance among military analysts. My most recent book, Building
Expertise summarizes:
* four architectures of instruction to be applied depending on the nature
of the outcome desired e.g. procedural or principled outcomes and the
expertise of the performer
* research on instructional interventions linked to human information
processing
* constructivist instructional environments especially cognitive
apprenticeships
for applied business settings e.g. sales, management training etc.
A summary of chapter one is on line at the Macromedia web site under
support.
I am interested in the leveraging of technology expecially its simulation
capabilities to launch cognitive apprenticeship learning environments
where expertise is accelerated through intensive interactive simulations with
work-like problems. From your introductions, it sounds like some are also
interested in or working in this area.
I look forward to some cross-disciplinary discussions.
