Thank you for for the opening of this forum!
My name is Bruce Jones. I am an Organizational Development Specialist
for a hospital in Amarillo, Texas. For the past 27 years I have been a
Medical Technologist involved in instructing Med. Tech. students in the
art and science of the clinical laboratory. During this time I felt
that there had to be a way to perform this instruction utilizing the
computer and self paced education. I finally decided to return to
school for a Masters in Education Technology. I also move out of the
lab about 7 months ago into being an educator and CBT developer here at
the hospital. So far, disputes with our computer department, low
budget concerns and other duty's have delayed or slowed progress in this
endeavor. This maybe "old hat" to some, but to us it is a major deal,
we started online testing for some of our annually required subjects. I
have some concerns about the use of the web and computer based training:
* Site and content design
* What skills can be effectively mastered and in what time utilizing
WBT and CBT?
* An effective definition of Mastery and Competency
* Once defined, what is the time frame for developing this skill and
how is it measured ?
* How do you reach those individuals, adult and child, that
demonstrate an inability
to use CBT or WBT?
* Since my concern at this time is adult education; how do you measure
the individuals ability to learn in such a manner that they "direct"
their own education.
* I would like to see Vygotsky's ZPD developed and used for self
direction..
These are a few of the areas that I would like to either see a formal or
informal discussion about.
