Hello IFETS community,
Although I have been lurking for a while this is my first posting to the IFETS list. I am an
instructional designer with an applied linguistics background. My professional interest lies
in computer-based training and distance education. I am currently developing training for the
aerospace industry but am looking to become involved in projects that are more closely
connected to my own field.
I agree with Bob Leamnson that attentive listening is anything but passive and that physical
activity does not guarantee learning - in fact, at times, even in the classroom, physical
activity can be totally "mindless".
This has bearings on the role of emerging interactive technology in learning and the current
belief that interactivity will facilitate the learning process. Interactivity can awaken
interest and motivation. However, simply because the learner is actively exploring does not
necessarily mean that s/he is learning - once the required information is located, it still
requires (active) attention in order to absorb it.
