INTERNET SOCIETY
CALL for ThinkQuest 1999 JUDGES
ThinkQuest Internet Challenge* is an International web-based
contest that offers an opportunity for students 12 through 19
years old to learn about the Internet, to work with other
students, and to create exciting tools and materials that will
help educate others in the "Internet Style" of learning.
To become involved in this important and exciting competition,
The Internet Society is seeking individuals to serve as Judges.
Candidates must have experience with web-based learning and
subject matter expertise in one of the following categories: math
and science, arts and literature, sports and health, social
sciences, and interdisciplinary topics.
Since its beginning in 1996, ThinkQuest has energized the
intellectual power of students around the world to:
7 Improve the quality of educational tools and materials
available on the Internet
7 Encourage students to build exciting and innovative
educational tools and materials that demonstrate and enrich the
"Internet Style" of learning
7 Use the Internet to create collaboration among students from
different countries and schools that have different levels of
technology
Equally important, students will be experiencing an entirely new
way of learning through the ThinkQuest Internet Challenge.
Through "Internet Style" learning--emphasizing exploration and
collaboration--kids are able to utilize the vast amount of
information available on the World Wide Web to make their
favorite subjects more exciting, both for themselves and for
other students.
To help them continue their education beyond high school,
ThinkQuest is granting scholarship awards for students and cash
awards for their coaches and schools. Students can win up to
$25,000 in scholarships and teachers and coaches can win up to
$5,000 (with an additional $5,000 provided to support their
school or institution).
