Learning IS a part of life. None of us can not learn if we are to survive a
single day. The problem for the individual is in filtering all the input so
that we learn correct "things, concepts, ideas." By correct, I suppose I
mean useful or leaning toward some base truth. For instance, in the area
where I work a lot of pedestrians have learned that there is a particular
"Don't Walk" sign that doesn't make sense. We have all learned to ignore
that sign and to cross the street. I suppose if one of us gets run over by
a truck we will modify our behavior (i.e., learn anew).

As teachers and instructional designers, our job is to intervene in that
learning process. When I teach graduate students I hope they learn the
content rather than how to figure out what my tests will be. My grandson is
learning what things taste like. My daughter is intervening so that he will
learn the taste of cheese and fruit, but not the bottom of chair legs nor
the cat!

So I guess,to respond to Arun, I would say that learning is life. When we
stop learning, we die (or perhaps that is the ultimate learning experience).
