In respose to Muhammad Betz:
"CMC" is computer-mediated communication, a bit of a catch-all term that
includes interaction through e-mail, listserv, computer conferencing, BBSs,
etc.
In further response to your comments, let me emphasise that the criteria I
listed were used to demonstrate what a competency and rationale system might
include. I wasn't trying to list all factors.
As for HTML editors, the criterion I listed assumed that a finished product
was being evaluated. It was the end I was examining, not the means! Some are
able to design effective on-line courses using "raw" HTML, while others can
produce disasterous Web sites using the latest HTML editors. What we should
be looking at, I think, is the end product - that which students interact
with and (hopefully) learn from.
For info on using video, slides etc. I don't personally know of a specific
site, but you might find something through
http://www.unk.edu/departments/rural_health/wbi/megasite.htm. Slides can be
"saved as HTML" if you are using PowerPoint; in fact, you can link a PPT
presentation directly to a Web, which students can read through their
browser (provided they have the correct free plug-in). All transitions are
kept if you use the latter format.
Re video, any .mov or .avi clip can be stored on a Web site and downloaded
by students. Real Audio and Video (http://www.real.com/) can be used for
streaming video; Net Meeting (http://www.microsoft.com/netmeeting/) is
another option.
