The discussion around Philip Duchastel's paper is critical, and to me a
seminal issue, not just for designers of electronically delivered
education but also for those who deliver in the conventional classroom.
I look forward to the discussion.

One of the fundamental issues which is of concern is the body of
knowledge to be delivered. Is this fixed, like the fundamental laws of
mathematics, or is the body of knowledge dynamic (even history changes,
not to mention contemporary issues like IT) Since we are sensitive to
the fact that facts DO change depending on where we are sitting in time,
what does this mean for instructional design within the moderator's
context?

Secondly, is the Socratic method valid in today's electronic
environment. If there is a body of knowledge, can "students" afford the
luxury of being "lead" no matter how clever the method. The moderator
touches on this but isn't clear on whether this may or may not be a
valid pedagogical approach -the hidden hand guiding the learner

Third, an IT consultant once said that a few years ago he spent 40% of
his time learning and 60% working and today the learn side is 80%. Is
there some radical change that we need to make in how learning is taking
place before we reach 99%?

I look forward to "listening" and learning here

thank you
