Hello Ramesh,

Thank you for introducing such an intriguing topic. Radio is seldom used in New Zealand,
in fact I am personally unaware of any tertiary institution using it, possibly because
its disadvantages seem to outweigh its advantages. For example, unless a student records
it there is no copy available for review; it is an audio-only medium; it requires
'attendance' as it were at a set time; it is essentially a one-way communications
medium. There are also cost factors associated with production and distribution that
would probably be best incurred by sending paper resources out to students by post.

Of course I am assuming a well-established postal system, literate population and that
you assume radio to be one-way as opposed to 'talk-back' style!

It seems to me that radio actually has much in common with the didactic lecture, which
is highly criticised. I would be interested in learning more about the inherent
advantages of radio in formal education. What does it achieve that making readings or
transcripts available to students would not?

Mark.
