in reply to Keith
what a wonderful term read only participants (ROP) hear hear Keith.
motivation to participate is so much better than coercion through multi
assessment strategies. If we take that tack we are in danger of becoming
mini educational dicators rather than facilitators of learning.

Keith is right we need to find interesting ways to get people to join
in and not worry if students prefer to 'appear wise through silence'
after all we are in the age where 'looking cool' is everything to some.

have you ever listened to teenage speake? A shortened, snappy & often
cryptic language is evolving encouraged by chat & mobile phone use.
Maybe our etivities need to adopt a similar strategy & not strive for
long-winded, indepth postings which bore everyone to death.
