Hi Trevor and Errol,
Certainly, but I guess on a grander scale! Bill C. sent me an email that gave the NEC CiteSeer reference (http://citeseer.nj.nec.com ) and this is pretty close to what I envisaged. I came across this a long time ago but lost the URL. (thanks!)
The BibTex entry will provide the uniqueness I was looking for.
Errol mentions ACM and Web of Science as evolving candidates and I will look with interest at how they integrate with other databases.
What I am fishing for is a similar entity to the BibTex one for Multimedia elements.
BibTex provides an entity structure for Bibliographic entries, does anyone know of a similar structure to BibTex for cataloging multimedia elements?
Here multimedia can include graphics, sound, animation, video, powerpoint slides, word documents etc...
