You might find this new book interestesting:

"Quick Guide to Interaction Styles and Working Remotely
Strategies for Leading and Working in Virtual Teams"
by Susan K. Gerke, Linda V. Berens
Telos Publications

It's $8.95 on Amazon. Their "interaction styles" model relates
explicitly to the 16 types (MBTI) as it groups them by shared
interaction/social style. I found it easy to use and helpful. While it
targets businesses and teams, it is general enough to relate to
educational issues, at least for me.

The geographic and cultural factors you mentioned were very interesting.
