I've been asked to consider how, given the use of alternative assessments in
high school, individuals (educators) at the college/university level might use
them s part of the admittance process or in conjunction with their own
courses. I've thought of setting up files on the internet into which high
school students can choose and insert portfolios, performance assessments,
written compositions, projects, etc.

Would they (could the) be used by those in the colleges and universities in
the selection process? Might they become part of the student's "package" to be
added to during the college career? What do you think?

The request comes from people involved in an effort to bring high school and
college level biology instructional practices in closer alignment. I simply
want to know if my ideas merit realistic consideration. For instance, during
the selection process of high school students who wish to attend college.

Do you think colleges are ready to begin to think of a world beyond SAT/ACT
and grades? Will they consider maintenance of "files" on students as they
progress through undergraduate and graduate work?

Thank you, Jan D. Snyder
