Arun,

Used as a tool for teaching, Internet has a great advantage in providing
students with real learning environment and rich learning resources.

Roughly speaking, teachers can guide students to do two different kinds of
acvitivities on Internet:
1.Phase One: students learn how to search information available on Internet
and use it for their own study and research;
2.Phase Two: publish their own materials on the Web.

Phase One is the time when students, especially novices of computers, can
not only learn how to absorb information from Internet, but also learn and
master some basic knowledge and skills of computers, including Microsoft
Office and telecommunications on Internet. Most significant is that within
this phase, students no longer study software for software. They study those
basic knowledge and skills of computers for the purpose of their real study
and research. In this way, they learn both Internet and computer technology
at the same time.

Phase Two is a time for advanced and complecated learning. Instead of
passively learning from Internet in Phase One, students are now asked to do
creative work: contribute what they research to Internet--publish their
own ideas and thoughts on Internet. Students need to research their topic
and also learn the basics of HTML. In this way, students make great
improvement in their abilities of researching, analysis, and creativity.

However, selecting Internet as a tool for teaching required teachers to
have expertise on Internet and have high responsibiltiy. Without the
guidance of teachers, students will easily get lost in Internet and waste
too much time in struggling their out of the sea of information.

This is just what I have thought. Look forward to responses from Arun and
others
