First, I object to spreading current inadequate classroom structures
electronically also. I agree that the 'transmission model' is
inadequate.
But I am worried that the word constructivism is used in
several apparently contradictory ways. Sometimes it is used to imply
that 'science' is wrong, a mistake I believe. To give students the
notion that all 'knowledge' is equally valid is wrong.
I like constructivism in the sense of guided discovery. For example, we
eveloped a program about 15 years ago for discovery of the laws of
genetics, as opposed to being told these laws. It is in the mastery
tradition, with all students making the discovery.
