Cathy asks about other activities like vrtual trips.
About five years ago I developed a CD of "life in the European Nursery"
which featured critical scenes in everyday life of nurseries and prsenting
the possibiliites of hearing from the people involved: the nuresry
professional, the parents, a more experienced nursery professional and a
child psychology "expert". We covered real activities in real situations:
"crying on arrival"; "fighting over toys"; "refusing to eat" etc.
These multimedia case studies were follwoed up with the use of role playing
software that allowed the creation of strip cartoons. The role players
could expres a range of 3 emotions, and could represent ideas as "think" (
ie what is not made explicit) or "speak". The role players could then try
to empathise with the position of the child, parent or professional... or
whoever in trying to create their own scenarios.
The quality of QuickTime digitisation available to me at the time meant
that we did not really move beyond the "proof of concept" to provide
"real" training material from this development. It is a concept I intend to
re-visit very soon.
