As to the discussion on online interaction. I agree that working on projects over the internet (via email or web applications) is more productive than just plain email. But, for language learners, often just interacting online in simple communications is enough to practice the basics of the language. There are also such things as MOOs and sites that offer language interactivity that are helpful for language learners, too. Virtual trips or real-life exploration of worldwide location with student interaction via the net, are also very useful.
