Hi,
We have been asked to supply a brief introductory biography. Here's mine.
I have 24 years experience teaching science (mostly physics) in Texas
public schools as well as several years experience teaching in Texas
community colleges. I am currently a doctoral candidate in science
education at the University of Texas at Austin, researching teacher active
decision making.
My technology interest and background arises from my participation at all
levels in the development of several technology based curriculum products.
The first was a Level III Videodisc-based Physical Science program. This
program has been very successful and is used in place of a text book in
physical science classrooms throughout the United States. There were also
several sites in Australia using the program at one time. The Physical
Science program was followed by a Chemistry program that has also been
successful. After the Chemistry program was completed, the company changed
course and began developing much smaller CD-ROM based programs addressing
particular issues in problem solving within the context of environmental
science. Most recently the company has completed a series of three CD-ROMs
using a science framework to aid acquisition of academic language skills
for students whose first language is not English.
