Subject: [ifets] Introduction - Jay Alden

My name is Jay Alden. I work at the National Defense
University (NDU) in Washington DC where I serve as a
professor and part-time Director of Distance Education
(visit www.ndu.edu/irmc). We run several graduate level
programs including a certificate program for federal Chief
Information Officers (CIOs). Several of the courses in this
program have been conducted online using Lotus LearningSpace
and we are reaching the point soon where the entire program
can be completed without visiting our campus. Another
initiative we are developing - called Knowledge Net - is a
web-enabled service seen as an alternative Information Age
strategy to deliver just-in-time continuing education to our
constituency and provide a vehicle for life-long learning.

I have interest in all forms of web-based instruction (in
fact I wrote a book called "A Trainer's Guide to Web-based
Instruction" published last year by the American Society for
Training and Development), but currently I am especially
interested in unstructured forms of continuing education
conducted over the WWW.
