Debbie-
We use WebCT also. Yes, you can customize. The nice thing about the
system is customization is your choice. You can re-arrange a major
portion of the pages and sections of the system to look the way you want
it to...or you can just "fill-in" the pre-designed areas and make use of
the system until you are more familiar with all of the functions. I
have looked at other WebCT sites and found them to be much different
from mine, but still familiar enought that I knew how to "surf" through
getting to the content. The learning curve depends on your background.
If you have a basic knowledge of how web sites are created and managed,
or if you have fundamental knowledge of web-page building and file
transfer and/or file management, you will find the curve to be minimal.
I find some of the functions of the system to be cumbersome. For
example, the version we have only allows you to upload 1 file at a
time! This is far too time consuming. I also use MS Frontpage and
other tools to build my pages because the editor within the system is
archaic. Overall it is a good system for the instructor and easy to use
for the student.
