Re Eric Flescher's comments:
While this (unfortunate) tendency toward education-as-regurgitation may still exist in primary learning,
it certainly is not dominant in adult learing--on the contrary, adult learners are the 'market' that has
pushed both institutional and workplace learning toward an applications focus. Concepts and theories are
only relevant if they can be demonstrated via application to specific problems or situations. By its
nature, application requires critical thinking skills--analysis, assessment and testing.
Distance technologies can enhance the applications focus when properly used, both by permitting outreach
to otherwise-inaccessible resources, and encouraging collaboration among dispersed individuals and
groups. Regards, Nora Carrol.
