Paradox indeed!

Increasingly there is a (positive) trend to define professional development
in terms of "Communities of Practice", precisely where reflection,
theorising, sharing and building on experience is important.

I have just returned from a conference where Nonaka San was elaborating on
his vision of "Knowledge Creating Companies", and the idea of " Ba"...
physical, virtual and mental spaces for knowledge interchange. Knowledge
aquisition through sharing with fellow professionals seen as the "norm" in
professional development, learning through mutual problem solving as the
natural way to incorporate learning with working.

ICT can make a clear contribution to this activity.
However elsewhere there has been some discussion of discrepancy between
Asian and north American culture. Nonaka San suggested that in creating Ba
there is a need for humour, incuding irony. This may be problematic for
some.
