It's not happening until it happens. Again, are there any places "hosting"
or "franchising" courses from other places, for credit, for tuition, with
what kinds of staffing and supervision? I really don't think it is
happening, and I really don't think it will happen easily, frequently, or
readily. There are too many faculty perquisites to compromise. On the other
hand, there is good reason to think it won't be (a) cheaper, or (b) better
or worse than what now is. Such arrangements make up in overhead any savings
in direct expenses of great teachers, and surely are no worse than first
year graduate "tutors" or teaching assistants who operate with virtually no
supervision in large introductory courses today. They might even be lots
better, with "facilitators" to enhance lecture and software based
instruction via the net and video. And they might even pay those
"facilitators" better than the serfs of large departments.

Who knows? Anybody out there?
