Yes, multiple choice questions can reveal and help teach higher order
thinking. One example is a test put out by a company called Touchstone
(www.tasa.com) which tests critical reading proficiency.
One could take the results of a test like that and attach different skill
deficiencies to various wrong answers to then create custom remediation for
each student.
This type of assessment/remediation is what my PILOT system is designed to
accomplish.
